ABOUT ME
Hailing from the uneventful suburbs of Toronto, it was clear that my childhood dream of becoming the MLB's first female 3rd baseman would not be realized.
Lucky for me, I had a passion for all things creative.
The Humblest Beginnings
When I say my introduction to graphic design was humbling, I mean it was terrifying. Fresh off of my post-secondary, European travels, through the grace of nepotism, I was thrown into the in-house studio of one of our nation’s largest utility companies (thanks, Dad!). The creative lead, a cursing mass of insanity, was absolutely wonderful to work with but verifiably crazy, nonetheless. Way back in those days, industry software came on CD, and was accompanied by enormous manuals–printed on paper! The old man dropped 3 manuals on my desk–Illustrator, Photoshop and Quark XPress (!!)–and declared “You have one week. Learn them.” Let me tell you, lawyers studying for the bar exam could not hold a candle to the level of study I embarked on that week.
Advertising, Olympics, Greeting Cards, and Everything in Between
Surprisingly, I was not shaken by the unconventional teaching methods of my mentor, and enrolled myself into one of Toronto’s finest schools for design. What came after that was a whirlwind of experiences in advertising, marketing, print production, photography, and art direction. Food service, retail, incentive travel, condo development, B2B & B2C, SaaS, and a short stint working with the Vancouver Olympic Committee. You name an industry, chances are I have had my fingers in there somewhere. As a long time papyrophiliac it was only natural for me to launch myself into the greeting card industry. Providing a line of moderately snarky greetings to retailers across North America introduced me to a world of self-marketing that I would not have experienced anywhere else. From email compliancy and fulfillment, to trade shows and product catalogs, this one-woman show rocked it. There’s so much more to unpack here, but most of it can be found in my resume.
Bread
Long before the COVID-19 bread-making craze–sparking the national yeast shortage of 2020–I had been using dough as a creative outlet. I mean, what’s better than art you can eat? From focaccia and bagels, to naan and challah, I have explored all avenues of bread. So passionate am I about this art form, I completed an ambitious project in the summer of 2020, where I built a wood fired oven in my very own backyard. You have not lived until you’ve had a slice of artisan loaf with a hint of applewood char. Check out this gallery, showcasing my adventures with yeast.
